Dylan was rescued from a Georgia shelter with just three hours left before he was to be euthanized. Luckily for Dylan, John found out about his situation and was able to persuade the shelter workers to wait until the following day when he was able to rescue Dylan. Unfortunately, Dylan is heartworm-positive and will need to undergo treatment and quiet recovery. But his prognosis is good, and he has a great outlook for a happy and normal life very soon. John reports that he is a beautiful and wonderful dog. We think he's pretty handsome, too!
March 30, 2006 from John:
Here are some pictures of Dylan by himself and with his new best friend Chako (my other rescue). Dylan is the one on the right in the pictures with Chako. He is a Samoyed mix I think, but very handsome! Hope you like.
I took Dylan to Vet today and should know the results of his diagnostics by tomorrow.
Tomorrow will one month for Dylan so according to the vet I can start taking him for short walks which I am sure he will be very happy about. Only two more weeks and he can run and play with Chako again. I just wanted to let you know he is doing well and is on the home stretch.I am sending a few photos which are not that good but I will send more next week. I decided to shave his stomach to give him some relief from the sweltering heat of the South. He doesn't look as good but feels a lot cooler.
Thank You again for your help and I will stay in touch with his progress and send better pictures soon.
I just wanted to let you know that I took Dylan to the Vet last week and she said everything looks good so far. She said he needs to get one more test in September to make sure they got all the heartworms and if that turns out good he is heartworm free. He is able to go for walks now and is loving every second of them. She said to gradually bring him back to full form (hard running) over the next month and then he can have free rein!
I just wanted to thank all you guys and everyone who contributed to his cause. I am fairly sure, from his actions, that he was an abused dog but he is getting more trusting every day and has a heart of gold. I am not sure if you wanted more pictures but I sent a few of He and his little buddy Chako just in case.
Thanks again- I will stay in touch and let you know results of next test.
PS- My roommate spoils him a little but after all he has been through I figure he deserves a bit of it. I know the dog whisperer guy wouldn't agree, but whatever.
I just wanted to give you guys and update on Dylan. I am sorry it has been so long but I had to wait 6 months before I could get him retested to make sure they eliminated all the heartworms, I took him in last week and got the results back yesterday and I am happy to report that they were NEGATIVE!! Dylan is heartworm-free.
I can't thank you all enough for your help and support, please let the donors know how much it was appreciated. He is doing very well, and since the weather has cooled off down here he has been in top form playing with his brother Chako. I can barely keep up with them because they have been at full throttle but I know I don't have to tell you how much energy Samoyeds have. I am having to train Dylan not to obsess on cats (he has a little problem with that) and to quit jumping on everyone within a hundred yard radius but other than that he is coming along fine and truly has a heart of gold.
Anyway I just wanted to check in and let you know the Great News! and to say Thank You once more. I don't have any pictures to send but I will get some in the next few weeks and pass them on to you.
Update from John, 10/17/2007
You helped me cover Dylans heartworm treatment a year of so ago. I just wanted to check in and let you guys know that he is living it up thanks to all you guys there. He is healthy as can be and really loving these cooler fall temperatures as of late. He has really settled in to his surroundings here and has become such a good dog with the only exception being his fascination / obsession with cats, which we are working on.
Thanks to the following special donor from Dylan and SamUrgency:
