When Diane Pulos lost her beloved Samoyed, Sammy, earlier in 2003, she wanted to do something to memorialize her love for him while at the same time helping other Samoyeds in need. She came to SamUrgency with a request to establish a memorial fund in Sammy's name. Though we had never done anything like that in the past, we were happy to do what we could to help.
Please take a few moments to enjoy some of Diane's pictures and memories of Sammy -- we hope they make you smile!
"Sammy came into my life on New Year's Day 1991. He stole my heart immediately. He had the most expressive eyes. He quickly learned to use his paw to get my attention. He would poke you with it until you reached down and scratched or rubbed his head.
"Sammy never met a stranger.
"Everyone became his friend, dog lover or not. Within moments of his greeting, his paw lifted, the most 'dog shy' individual was either rubbing his tummy or his head. He adored children and they could pull on his ears or grab his tail with squeals of delight and he would just smile and kiss them.
"In January of 2000 I started my business out of my home as a personal trainer. Sammy became the official greeter and would bring the client into the training room. He was nicknamed the 'therapy dog'. He supplied lots of kisses and those wonderful smiles.
"Sammy loved to go for rides. Loved his groomer and even waited patiently in a chair for his appointment at the vet's office.
"Sammy was my best friend and he gave me unconditional love every day we shared. We walked many miles together and Sammy listened to me as my 'therapy dog' as well."
Sammy was loved by many and is still greatly missed.
